Mandie and I didn't spend all our time eating and drinking in Freiburg. We also bought Bächle boats (and floated them all over town), climbed up the Schloßberg for a view of the city, shopped, meandered through the market, and ventured out to Vauban to see Mandie's old study abroad haunts.

freiburg III: bächle boats & greenery
Mandie and I didn't spend all our time eating and drinking in Freiburg. We also bought Bächle boats (and floated them all over town), climbed up the Schloßberg for a view of the city, shopped, meandered through the market, and ventured out to Vauban to see Mandie's old study abroad haunts.
freiburg II: eating & drinking
To look at this, you might think we spent our entire weekend in Freiburg doing nothing but eating and drinking. It's true that Sunday, after waking up to discover that our cell phones had gotten stolen, we did nothing but café hop, and that we made it to Feierling on both Friday and Saturday. But actually the food was not all that good (surprisingly), though that Eiskaffee was enormous and wonderful.

freiburg I: signs
Mandie was a good sport about my signs obsession when we were in Freiburg (a.k.a. Fantasyland) the second weekend in June. Lucky thing, because otherwise she probably would have had to ditch me for the majority of the weekend. (So many good signs!)

frankfurt weekend
Megan came to visit at the beginning of June, wedging 36 hours in Frankfurt in the middle of a multiple-week-long business trip. And so we went to brunch at Zeit für Brot, met up with friends for lunch at Spice Kitchen, checked out some surprisingly adorable shops around the Dom, rode a pedal boat (EUR 10,- for half an hour!), wandered through Bergerstraßenfest, ate in the Biergarten at Mosebach, and finished off the evening at Long Island Summer Lounge. Which sounds like a lot of stuff now that it's all written out, but actually it was just lovely.
langener waldsee
I'd been to Langener Waldsee once before with Megan and Lucy, two summers ago, and hadn't managed to make it back until Stephen let me drag him out there on an afternoon at the end of May that wasn't quite warm and sunny enough to be perfect lake weather. That wasn't remotely going to stop me from going swimming, though. When you live in a country whose weather does not seem to understand the concept of summer, you've got to take advantage when you can. Water water water!

wäldchestag fest
Wäldchestag Fest, aka the Frankfurt Forest Festival, had some of the best signs. It also had ponies (the mean old man wouldn't let us ride them!), a Ferris wheel with cars you could spin (fun for Stephen, not so much fun for Conor), plenty of food and drink, some dogs taking turns humping each other, and a shooting game that Stephen pushed Conor into playing (Stephen lost, but Conor won a tiny Bembel which we then got a bartender to serve him victory Apfelwein in).
